A stock of more than 150 African films ensures the education of the population on African realities through regular film screenings, in the audiovisual era where the image speaks more than the written word.
E.g.: Bamako, Abderrahmane Sissako, Mali, 2006
A comedy in the African and global reality! Melé is a singer in a bar, her husband Chaka is out of work, the couple is tearing each other apart. In the courtyard of the house he shares with other families, a court has been set up. Representatives of African civil society have initiated legal proceedings against the World Bank and the IMF, which they consider responsible for the tragedy that is shaking Africa. Between pleadings and testimonies, life goes on in the court. Chaka seems indifferent to Africa's unprecedented desire to claim its rights. Caught in the stranglehold of debt and structural adjustment, the African continent must fight for its survival. Abderrahmane Sissako's new film is a surprising comedy, dealing with a subject as serious as Africa's destiny. But this light tone does not prevent things from being said. The new African cinema has arrived! And it is a cinema that turns its back on folklore without abandoning its responsibilities.
